Morenci Area Schools

About the Project

The school district in Morenci, Michigan, used COVID-19 relief funds, public utility incentives, a state energy bond, and general district funds to make energy system improvements in all their schools. The lighting retrofit included new LED luminaires for all 2x2 and 2x4 fixtures, retrofit kits for miscellaneous areas, and LED replacement for all exterior lighting, including parking lots and athletic facilities. Advanced Bluetooth wireless controls enable task tuning, occupancy, and daylight harvesting, and energy monitoring and management is possible through the controls interface. The energy monitoring data is reported to the utility to justify incentives.

Across all three schools, the upgrades are expected to save approximately 490,000 kWh and more than $1 million in energy and operational costs. The consistent, even, and brighter illumination has received positive feedback from teachers and staff, who enjoy the enhanced usability, controllability, and safety from the lighting.
