About the Project

Phoenix Convention Center & Venues in Phoenix, Arizona, is recognized in the Advanced Use of Sensors and Controls for Lighting category for converting existing metal halide and compact fluorescent lighting to LED technology in the exhibit halls, ballrooms, meeting rooms and public spaces. The retrofit replaced more than 15,000 existing light fixtures—essentially halving the number of lighting fixtures needed in the building—and provided over 3.5 million kWh in annual energy savings and 24,000 kW in demand reduction. The new lighting control system consists of a customized platform which allows Phoenix Convention Center staff to operate centralized controls, monitor energy usage, and accommodate advanced scheduling, individual lamp control, customized lighting configurations, and dimming. This project also boasts interactive savings from reduced cooling load and over $500,000 per year in cost savings, which includes energy and operational cost savings.
