About the Project

Salt Lake City School District in Utah is recognized in the Advanced Use of Sensors and Controls for Lighting and Energy Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (EJDEI) in Advanced Lighting categories. The K–12 school district upgraded to LED lighting and wireless controls in 34 schools and 3 district buildings. The upgrade includes occupancy/vacancy sensors, daylight harvesting, scheduling, and high-end trim, as well as multiple lighting scenes available in all classrooms. Annually, this retrofit is expected to save $600,000 while reducing energy usage by 6 million kWh and greenhouse gas emissions by 4,400 metric tons. From the project, the school district is on target to reduce annual utility costs by 24% and carbon emissions by 23%.
